Focus Ireland Million Metres
Wednesday October 31st
This morning we all set out together to complete the last 16,000m and celebrated with coffee and snacks all around.
We’ve been updating our instagram throughout out the month so please check out some photos there.
Thanks to all the team who worked hard all month and to all of you for supporting us.
Tuesday October 30th
We’re still pounding the pavements every day... Last month, we decided to try to contribute towards those doing active work to help the homeless crisis happening around us. We chose to raise awareness (and money) by walking 1,000,000 metres in our Focus Ireland t-shirts for the month of October.
We’re up to 960,000 and looking forward to hitting the million mark this evening or early tomorrow!!!
Tuesday October 23rd
In case you are just joining us!... Last month, we decided to try to contribute towards those doing active work to help the homeless crisis happening around us. We chose to raise awareness (and money) by walking 1,000,000 metres in our Focus Ireland t-shirts for the month of October.
We’ve had to get out and about every single day (hail rain or shine) so far and have just topped the 750,000m mark with a little over a week to go.
We have a target to raise €3000 with Highlife to match any donations made so please click here to donate to Focus Ireland.

Friday October 19th
We have been swimming, walking, cycling & running in Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry & Wicklow, as well as in .... Mallorca and Krakow and we've just tipped over the 650,000 metre mark.
As a reward for every 10,000 metres achieved, we've been 'winning' yellow bricks for our 'road to the million metres' in the office - the motivation is mighty!!
Friday October 12th
Almost 2 weeks in and spirits and the weather has been all on our side so far. We’ve been in our Yellow FOCUS Ireland t-shirts walking, running, swimming (in the sea!) and cycling (though only a third of cycling meter’s count) every day.
This weekend should see us cross the 500,000 metre mark! Well done everybody.
According to Focus Ireland, the root cause of the homeless crisis in Ireland is the broken housing system and the lack of public housing to meet the needs of society.
Their research shows that the provision of affordable public housing must form a key part of any country’s housing system because it acts as a safety net for families and individuals pushed out of the private rental market due to the high cost of renting or the lack of availability.
There were 9,891 people homeless in the week of July 23rd-29th 2018 across Ireland. This figure includes adults and children. The number of families becoming homeless has increased by 24% since July 2017. More than one in three people in emergency accommodation is a child.
For the month of October, Highlife is committed to raising awareness and money for Focus Ireland by getting out on the street to clock up a million metres (swimming, running, walking cycling).

Good luck Alan, Alannah, David, Eleanor, John, Seamus, Sean and Simon with pounding the pavement.
